A Used V8 Infiniti QX80 Can Cost About the Same as a New Subaru Crosstrek

Used-car shoppers chasing Toyota and Lexus V8 SUVs have another option: the second-generation Infiniti QX80, badged QX56 before 2014. It shares its platform with the Nissan Patrol, bringing body-on-frame capability, real off-road credibility and proven V8 power without the usual luxury markup.
New compact SUVs aren't cheap. The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek starts at $26,995 before destination fees. That same budget can land a clean, low-mileage QX80. Online classifieds show examples starting around $6,000, though those usually have close to 200,000 miles or accident history.
Around $15,000, buyers can find roughly decade-old QX80s with under 100,000 miles. At about $27,000, the picture improves further: 2020-2022 examples with around 60,000 miles. Compare that with a Lexus LX: a 2011-or-newer LX won't go under $15,000, and one with under 100,000 miles costs at least $33,000.
The Toyota Land Cruiser is pricier still.
6-liter V8, producing 400 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque, paired with a seven-speed automatic and rated to tow 8,500 pounds. 2 inches of ground clearance and a four-mode terrain system on four-wheel-drive models. A 2022 update added a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Reliability is respectable. JD Power gave the final 2024 model a score of 89 out of 100, RepairPal ranks the QX80 first among luxury full-size SUVs, and CarComplaints lists relatively few reported issues, though the 2011 and 2019 model years appear most problematic. It generally proves more dependable than the Cadillac Escalade and Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, even if the Lexus LX remains the durability gold standard.
Buyers should check the air suspension, hydraulic body-motion control and electronics, and watch for timing-chain stretch on early examples.
With the 2025 QX80 dropping the V8 for a twin-turbo V6, these older V8 versions aren't likely to stay this affordable forever.
