A One-Star Review Backfires: Florida Dealership Manager Apologizes After Viral TikTok Takedown

A One-Star Review Backfires: Florida Dealership Manager Apologizes After Viral TikTok Takedown

A Florida couple thought they were doing the right thing by warning other car buyers about their rocky experience with a new van. Instead, they say the dealership’s general manager turned their review into a personal vendetta. 4 million views on TikTok, ended with the manager and the dealership’s parent company issuing public apologies.

Tiffany and Robert Maillet purchased a van from Nissan of Cape Coral and say it developed serious transmission problems almost immediately. After struggling to get help, Tiffany posted a one-star Google review. According to the couple, General Manager Blake Varnadoe retaliated by leaving negative reviews about their upholstery business on Google and encouraging others to do the same.

In a now-deleted TikTok video, Tiffany described the attack on their livelihood, sparking outrage online.

Within days, the backlash became impossible to ignore. Krause Auto Group, which owns the dealership, released a statement calling the manager’s response “inappropriate” and confirming they had apologized to the Maillets personally. The company promised to reinforce professional conduct training but didn’t disclose whether Varnadoe faced further discipline.

Varnadoe later took to the dealership’s Facebook page to apologize, saying he would use his time away from work to complete training and reflect on his actions. The irony? The same internet that rallied behind the Maillets also flooded the dealership with negative reviews, echoing the very tactic used against the couple.
