Corvette Convertible Hiatus

The Chevrolet Corvette convertible was absent from the market for several years. In 1975, due to the oil crisis, emissions regulations, and concerns over rollover safety standards, Chevrolet decided to drop the convertible body style. This meant that for 11 years, the only way to get a Corvette was with a fixed roof.
The convertible finally returned in 1986. When the C5 generation launched in 1997, the convertible was initially absent, only to return a year later in 1998. As a result, Corvette convertible models from certain years are less common. The Corvette has been a staple of American sports cars since 1953.
