2027 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport: More Power and a Premium Feel

Volkswagen's newest American-built SUV is here, and it's aiming to shake off the boring family-hauler label. The 2027 Atlas Cross Sport brings sharper looks, a stronger engine, and an interior that punches above its weight class, potentially making buyers think twice about spending more on a luxury badge.
0-liter four-cylinder engine now producing 282 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, a 13-hp jump over the previous model. VW calls this EA888 evo5 engine essentially all-new, with a variable-geometry turbocharger for better response across the rev range. An eight-speed automatic remains, with front-wheel drive standard and 4Motion all-wheel drive available.
Towing capacity stays at 5,000 pounds with the factory hitch. No acceleration figures are released, and a hybrid is planned for the midcycle refresh, though details are unannounced.
The redesign brings completely new sheet metal, making the SUV look lower, wider, and more planted. 1 inches lower than the seven-seat Atlas, with a coupe-like roofline. Stacked LED headlights, a masked grille, and illuminated light strips with a glowing VW badge highlight the front.
Available illuminated door handles project puddle lights, and the rear features full-width taillights with dynamic turn signals. Wheel sizes range from 18 to 21 inches, with new colors including Dark Sage Metallic, Sandstone, and Blackberry Metallic.
Inside, a bold dashboard loop uses soft-touch materials, gray wood trim, and contrast stitching. 9 inches. 25-inch digital gauge cluster and a console dial for volume and drive modes are standard. Top trims offer 30-color ambient lighting, Nappa or Varenna leather, and massaging front seats.
Standard gear includes a hands-free liftgate, rear sunshades, dual phone charging, and five USB-C ports. Travel Assist offers hands-on driving aid up to 95 mph with lane changes, and Emergency Assist Plus can pull the SUV over in a medical emergency.
Pricing arrives before the SUV hits dealerships in early 2027. VW has sold over 220,000 Atlas Cross Sports since 2020, but this model must prove a family crossover can offer power, style, and premium features without the premium price.
