2027 Toyota Crown: A Bold Hybrid Mix of SUV Stance and Sedan Style

The 2027 Toyota Crown is back and still hard to define. It rides like a compact crossover, looks like a sleek midsize sedan, and wears a cabin that feels closer to Lexus than typical Toyota. The result is a one-of-a-kind entry in the midsize luxury class, though it comes with a price tag that nearly reaches Lexus territory.
Every Crown is a hybrid with all-wheel drive. 5-liter four-cylinder hybrid system with 236 horsepower. 4-liter Hybrid Max setup with 340 horsepower. The base powertrain uses a CVT, while the Platinum gets a six-speed automatic. 1 seconds for the Platinum. The ride is tuned for relaxation rather than corner-carving, though Platinum's adaptive dampers add a little fun.
Fuel economy is a big plus. The base hybrid is rated up to 42 mpg city and 41 mpg highway, while the Platinum checks in at 29 city and 32 highway. In real-world highway testing, a Limited returned 42 mpg and a Platinum returned 32 mpg.
Inside, the Crown offers generous passenger space, a raised driving position, and premium touches like available leather, ventilated seats, and a panoramic sunroof. A 12.3-inch touchscreen and digital gauge cluster are standard. The optional JBL stereo, however, underwhelmed in testing.
For 2027, Toyota reworked the rear bumper and added Inked black paint. Platinum trims now get red brake calipers and black window trim. Limited and Platinum offer a new Saddle Tan interior, and paddle shifters have been added to XLE, Limited, and Nightshade trims. The two-tone paint is subtler, with the trunk lid now matching body color.
Cargo space fits five carry-on suitcases, or 20 with the rear seats folded. Toyota includes a three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty, a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, and a 10-year/150,000-mile hybrid component warranty, plus two years/25,000 miles of complimentary maintenance.
