2027 Porsche 911 Carrera S Brings Back the Manual Gearbox

2027 Porsche 911 Carrera S Brings Back the Manual Gearbox

Porsche has answered calls from its North American fans by offering the 2027 911 Carrera S with a six-speed manual transmission, available through a new MT package.

The Carrera S, often seen as the enthusiast's pick in the 911 lineup, now pairs its 473-hp twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat-six with a manual gearbox, giving it significantly more punch than the Carrera T while costing far less than the GT3.

The manual comes bundled with the Sport Chrono package, centerlock wheels, rear-wheel steering, and a sport suspension. It's rear-wheel-drive only, and the claimed weight is 3,327 pounds, only slightly heavier than the Carrera T but about 20 percent more powerful.

The MT package also adds details like puddle lights showing the shifter pattern and a red S badge on the rear. A walnut shift knob tops the six-speed stick.

Pricing starts at $169,450 for the coupe and $183,350 for the cabriolet, still well below a 911 GT3 and not a huge jump over the Carrera T.

Porsche's PDK dual-clutch transmission has been a track favorite since the tech reached 911 road cars in 2008, but for those who value engagement over lap times, this new manual option sits right in the sweet spot.
