2027 Mercedes-AMG GT53 EV Packs 536 HP and a Straight-Six Sound

2027 Mercedes-AMG GT53 EV Packs 536 HP and a Straight-Six Sound

Mercedes-AMG is adding a more accessible model to its electric GT 4-Door lineup. The 2027 GT53 4-Door EV makes 536 horsepower and should cost well below its six-figure siblings.

Unlike the old gas-powered AMG 53, this one does not have a turbocharged inline-six under the hood. Instead, engineers used 16 microphones to capture the sound of a straight-six engine and play it back through the battery-powered car. So it can sound like the real thing without burning a drop of fuel.

Mercedes hasn't announced pricing yet, but the GT53 should land far under the estimated $140,000 starting price of the 1,153-hp GT63. Even with less power, it is claimed to hit 60 mph in the mid-three-second range. The car has a 106-kWh usable battery pack on an 800-volt architecture, which can add about 280 miles of range in 10 minutes at a powerful DC fast charger.

Total range is estimated at around 423 miles.

The GT53 uses two electric motors, one on each axle, while the stronger GT models use three motors. Like those already-revealed GT63 and GT55 EVs, the GT53 should be quicker and more aerodynamic than the previous combustion versions.
