2027 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk Returns at $53,000, Facing Cheaper Rivals

The 2027 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk is back after skipping a year, and Jeep has set its price at $53,000 before destination. That's a notable drop from the 2025 4xe model's $66,185 starting price, but it still undercuts the competition. The Ford Explorer Tremor starts at $49,460, and the Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road at $50,290, both with proven off-road hardware and both thousands less.
Order books are open now, with deliveries expected late this year. The Trailhawk returns alongside the Overland at $55,900 and a new Upland trim at $47,995, which borrows the Trailhawk's look for less.
5-inch all-terrain tires. Jeep claims best-in-class ground clearance and leading approach, departure, and breakover angles. 0-liter four-cylinder making 324 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, replacing the 4xe plug-in hybrid. 6-liter V6, and both engines tow 6,200 pounds.
However, testing by CarBuzz in other Grand Cherokee trims found a noticeable throttle delay, blamed more on transmission calibration than turbo lag, a concern both on the street and the trail. Fuel economy is also not impressive: 20 mpg city, 25 highway, and 22 combined with four-wheel drive, barely better than the V6.
The Explorer Tremor offers three rows and off-road features like a terrain management system and skid plates. The 4Runner TRD Off-Road is body-on-frame, giving it a durability edge over the unibody Jeep. Both rivals cost over $3,500 less, and neither has the throttle hesitation.
The new Upland trim, at $47,995, offers Trailhawk-inspired styling, front fascia with tow hooks, 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, gray accents, and suede interior, but without Trail Rated certification. It undercuts both the Tremor and 4Runner, making it a strong alternative for buyers who want the look without the hardcore capability.
The Trailhawk is a better deal than the 2025 4xe, but at $53,000, it demands a premium over two capable rivals while offering a powertrain that hasn't impressed in tests. Those who need the Trail Rated badge, air suspension, and low range will appreciate it. Everyone else should test the Tremor and 4Runner before deciding.
