2027 Hyundai Ioniq 5: A Balanced EV That Blends Range, Style, and Comfort

2027 Hyundai Ioniq 5: A Balanced EV That Blends Range, Style, and Comfort

Hyundai's 2027 Ioniq 5 electric SUV continues to hit the essentials: competitive range, rapid charging, and a powertrain that can move when asked. What stands out is how the compact crossover adds personality without sacrificing practicality. The cabin is modern, comfortable, and easy to use, while the exterior offers a fresh take on retro-futuristic design.

The lineup starts with a 168-horsepower rear-drive SE model, good for an EPA-estimated 245 miles of range. Stepping up to the 225-horsepower SEL extends that to 318 miles. For more excitement, dual-motor all-wheel-drive versions produce 320 horsepower, and the rugged XRT trim adds an off-road-tuned suspension.

For 2027, Hyundai trimmed two exterior colors, Gravity Gold Matte and Sage Silver Matte, and made roof rails available on the mid-range SEL. The cargo cover, once standard on the Limited, is now an accessory across the lineup, and HomeLink is exclusive to the Limited trim.

Charging remains a highlight: Hyundai says the larger 84.0-kWh battery can go from 10 to 80 percent in about 20 minutes on a DC fast charger, a claim Car and Driver confirmed. In their testing, a dual-motor Limited traveled 260 miles on the highway, while the XRT managed 200 miles.

The interior offers excellent space, thanks to a wheelbase longer than the three-row Palisade's. Cargo capacity measures 30 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 59 with them folded. A 12.3-inch touchscreen and digital gauge cluster come standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Standard safety features include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Hyundai's warranty covers the battery for ten years or 100,000 miles, and complimentary maintenance is included for three years or 45,000 miles.

In performance testing, an all-wheel-drive SEL hit 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, while the XRT did it in 4.5. Towing capacity is rated at 2,700 pounds, though Hyundai recommends towing only with the AWD XRT equipped with the factory hitch.
