2027 Genesis GV90: A Closer Look at the SUV With Rear-Hinged Doors

Genesis has officially unveiled the 2027 GV90, its all-electric flagship SUV. The model closely follows the Neolun concept from two years ago, including the notable rear-hinged doors that can open independently and simultaneously. The system, called the Neolun Arch Gate, works because the rear doors slide outward before rotating open.

The GV90 rides on Genesis's bespoke eMP architecture, which the company says is exclusive to its flagship products. 5-kilowatt-hour battery, 657 horsepower, and 590 lb-ft of torque across front and rear motors. The seven-seat version has an estimated range of 310 miles. Multi-chamber air suspension and rear-wheel steering are standard.

Despite lacking a traditional B-pillar, Genesis says the cabin frame is 50% thicker than that of conventional vehicles and performs as well in collisions. The underbody uses extensive aluminum to offset weight. The GV90 also includes swiveling front seats, a glass ceiling with an integrated airbag for rollover protection, and electrochromic glass with adjustable opacity on the top-tier Neolun Executive Suite.

The exterior features a double lightbar signature that serves as the actual headlights, called the Wing Face Micro Lens Array. Inside, there is no instrument binnacle; all driving information appears on a heads-up display. 5 inches when parked. It runs the Android Automotive-based Pleos Connect operating system.

A unique gear indicator sits behind the steering wheel, staying at the 12-o'clock position when the vehicle is off and rotating to the 2-o'clock position when the driver closes the door. The GV90 has no power button. Genesis says the SUV will reach dealers in 2027, but has not yet announced exact timing or pricing.
