2027 Dodge Charger PPV Marks Return of the American Police Sedan

Dodge brought a prototype of the 2027 Charger Police Pursuit Vehicle to the Police Fleet Expo at Daytona International Speedway, giving law enforcement a first look at the nameplate's return to patrol duty. Orders are expected to open in summer 2027.

0-liter Hurricane inline-six making 420 horsepower and 468 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive. S. market, which has otherwise shifted to crossovers. The previous-generation Charger Pursuit retired three years ago.

The prototype features a stripped-out center console replaced with a Havis fleet console for laptops, radios, and siren controls. A partition separates front and rear seats, with a second divider behind the rear seat due to the liftback design. The rear cargo area includes a dedicated equipment tray.

Front seats currently carry over from the civilian R/T, though bolstering may be reduced for utility belts. Rear door power-window switches shown on the prototype are not expected in production.

Chrysler/Dodge CEO Matt McAlear said at Roadkill Nights that the PPV is "absolutely part of the plan," noting active work with the California Highway Patrol and Michigan State Police on pursuit standards. "It's always taken a Charger to catch a Charger," he added.

Dodge's police vehicle history dates to 1956 with the Coronet, followed by the Monaco, Diplomat, Intrepid, and Charger Pursuit from 2006 to 2023. The new PPV uses the standard-output Hurricane I6, which exceeds the 370 horsepower of the old 5.7-liter Hemi V8 in the previous Charger Pursuit.
