2026 Toyota GR Corolla Is Quicker, But Driveline Heat Warning Lingers

According to Car and Driver testing, the 2026 Toyota GR Corolla is faster in manual form. The hatch hit 60 mph in 4.2 seconds, trimming 0.7 seconds off the previous model year's 4.9-second run. It also reached 100 mph in 10.7 seconds versus 11.4 before, and cleared the quarter-mile in 12.8 seconds at 108 mph.
Toyota added 45.6 feet of structural adhesive, firmer rear springs, a softer rear anti-roll bar, and a secondary air intake that reportedly reduces inlet temperatures by an average of 85 degrees Fahrenheit under load. The updates made the car more stable, and it reached 140 mph 2.5 seconds sooner than the older model.
The GR Corolla remains the only AWD hot hatch Americans can buy with a manual transmission, and it can send 70 percent of its power to the rear wheels. Braking stayed consistent, with a best stop from 70 mph of 154 feet. But after six hard acceleration runs, the test car displayed a driveline overheat warning, showing that not every thermal issue has been cured.
The Premium Plus manual starts at $46,565 before destination.
