2025 Ford F-450 Super Duty: The Only Production Truck That Tows 40,000 Pounds

When the job calls for hauling a loaded lowboy or a stack of construction gear, most pickups fall short. But one factory-built truck can legally pull 40,000 pounds right off the lot, the 2025 Ford F-450 Super Duty.
7-liter High-Output Power Stroke V8 turbodiesel. That engine makes 475 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic. Max payload is 6,322 pounds, and conventional towing tops out at 30,000 pounds. The base XL starts at $45,300, but a fully equipped tow-ready version runs closer to $65,000, the high-output diesel alone adds $3,000.
Ford's 6.7-liter Power Stroke has been around since 2011, replacing the 6.4-liter, and now comes in standard and high-output versions. The F-450 also packs tech like Pro Trailer Backup Assist, Smart Hitch, Onboard Scales, and trailer navigation.
Rivals come close but don't match: the Ram 3500 HD tops out at 37,090 pounds with its high-output Cummins (420 hp, 1,075 lb-ft), and the Chevy Silverado 3500 HD maxes at 36,000 pounds with the Duramax (470 hp, 975 lb-ft). Even the Ford F-350 can tow 38,000 pounds with a gooseneck.
0-inch screen. Still, you can add the ProPower Onboard generator and onboard scales for worksite duty. Higher trims, XLT at $66,695, Lariat at $79,665, King Ranch at $92,090, Platinum at $93,535, Limited at $104,030, offer more comfort but may not hit that 40,000-pound figure. For pure towing muscle, the XL is the value pick.
